OUR SERVICES

Geotechnical Engineering

Our geotechnical experience includes investigations for small to large subdivisions, low, mid and high rise buildings with multi-level underground parking structures, shoring evaluation, retaining walls, various types of big box buildings and plazas.

We have completed exploratory work in sands, clays, tills and rock, across Ontario, and our expertise has included shallow, deep foundations, H and O Piles, helical piles.

Hydrogeological Engineering

Our hydrogeological team has a wide range of experience including anything from desk-top studies to full site investigations & multi-year monitoring programs. We have integrated many technologies into the hydrogeological services we provide allowing us to carry out cutting edge investigations. Typical investigations we provide include:

  • Construction dewatering estimations and risk assessments.
  • Door to door domestic water well surveys and private well inspection/testing.
  • Assessment of water supplies for developments on individual private wells.
  • Nitrate impact assessments on groundwater by proposed developments on individual on-site sewage systems.
  • Site and feature based water balance studies.
  • Phosphorus and nutrient loading assessments.
  • Baseline /seasonal monitoring of groundwater levels, surface water levels (streams, wetlands, etc.), stream flow, water quality, water temperature and general chemistry (Turbidity, PH, dissolved oxygen, etc.).
  • Groundwater and surface water interaction studies outlining recharge and discharge areas.

Our hydrogeology team understands how the above investigations aid in advancing your project through the approval processes. We are committed to expediting permit applications and providing testing and reporting in a timely manner.

Environmental Engineering

Our expertise ranges from baseline or due diligence environmental site assessments (ESA) to complex Brownfield Redevelopment work including regulatory filing of Record of Site Condition and Excess Soil Management. We provide you with the right solutions from the start of the project, and take the time to explain scenarios - short and long term. We have experience in CSA Z768 (Phase I ESA), CSA Z769 (Phase II ESA) and Ontario Regulation 153/04.

Our staff have extensive field and management experience related to soil and groundwater investigations and remediation works.

We have a sound understanding and knowledge of Ontario Regulation 406/19 On-site and Excess Soil Management including the Rules for Soil Management and Excess Soil Quality Standards. We lay significant emphasis on understanding the project requirements and providing appropriate guidance to our Clients. Typical works include field sampling, and report preparation such as Assessment of Past Uses (APU), Sampling and Analysis Plan (SAP), Soil Characterization Report (SCR), Excess Soil Destination Assessment Report (ESDAR), Soil Tracking, and Excess Soil Registry Filing

Environmental work is generally undertaken in conjunction with Geotechnical and Hydrogeological work.

Construction Inspection and Testing

Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) are an integral part of any construction project. Our services include sub-grade inspections, compaction testing with nuclear gauge, footing sub-soil inspections, deep foundations, water proofing inspections, reinforcement inspections, concrete slump and air content determination, insitu concrete cylinder and mortar casting, building envelope (air, vapour barrier) inspections, roof inspections, and structural steel inspections.

Laboratory Testing

We are capable of conducting in-house laboratory tests for

Moisture Content, Mechanical Grain Size analysis including Hydrometer, Atterberg Limits determination, Standard and Modified Proctor tests for various types of soils.

Property Condition Assessments / Building Science

We conduct Property Condition Assessments (PCA) in accordance with the latest version of ASTM E2018 in a Canadian context. Fieldwork and reporting are conducted by a licensed Professional Engineer. The PCA typically includes a visual review of Site Improvements, Building Structural, Building Envelope (including roof), Building Interior, Electrical Systems, Mechanical Systems including Plumbing, Conveyances, Life and Fire Safety Systems. along with an Opinion of Probable Costs with a 10 year term, which is split into Immediate, Short and Term periods.

The turnaround for a typical PCA based on acreage and improvements can vary between 7 to 15 working days.

We also offer Building Science related reviews for building envelope including roof replacement inspections.
